 Stokes honours a England great

England captain Ben Stokes sported former England participant and batting instruct Graham Thorpe's call and jersey no.564, while he walked out for the toss. Thorpe, fifty two, is presently 'seriously unwell' and within the hospital.

"Me carrying this shirt is on behalf of me and the England cricket group to reveal aid to him, his spouse, his youngsters, and all his circle of relatives and pals thru this tough time because all of us love Thorpey, and he means a hell of plenty to us," said Stokes.

A concussion replacement named

While the morning began outstanding for England, having sent lower back each the New Zealand openers below five overs, the hosts suffered a large blow whilst Jack Leach was pressured to withdraw from the Test.

Leach become chasing a boundary from backward point when he landed awkwardly on his head and neck and changed into not able to get. After being tended to via the medical workforce, the spinner had to walk again to the pavilion. 

Subsequently he started showing concussion signs and needed to be ruled out of the Test. Leg-spinner Matt Parkinson was later named as his substitute.
